About the Department of Architecture

The Department of Architecture at Shih Chien University, situated in the resource-rich academic and cultural metropolis of Taipei, has cultivated many innovative architects over the past two decades. In addition to possessing a broad design perspective and professional execution abilities, the department emphasizes the integration and deepening of "craft aesthetics," "humanistic vision," and "architectural expertise" throughout its five-year curriculum. Here, students can fully utilize the resources of related design departments within the School of Design, take advantage of Taipei’s rich academic and cultural offerings, and immerse themselves in a diverse, interdisciplinary design education environment.

The department's education centers on nurturing creative individuals, focusing on space research, development, and experimental capabilities that combine craftsmanship with contemporary technology. The ultimate goal is to cultivate "humanistic architecture," which is deeply rooted in culture and art, and emphasizes humanistic cultivation. In addition to rigorous professional training, the curriculum incorporates courses on literary classics and art appreciation. It frequently hosts interdisciplinary lectures on the humanities and arts, covering fields such as film, music, literature, sociology, art, and psychology. These lectures feature guest speakers from various professional backgrounds and include participation in exhibitions and performances both on and off campus.

The program actively fosters students' abilities to create architecture with a global perspective, applying interdisciplinary and multifaceted skills and theoretical knowledge. It also seeks to enhance students' capacity to integrate technology and humanistic thought through design, aiming to cultivate a well-rounded professional vision.
